Strolling past the charity second-hand store earlier this week (always a dangerous temptation!), I noticed this 1989 edition of The Australian Wildlife Year by Reader’s Digest Australia on the $1 table. A full-colour, hardcover reference book, it now lives on the shelf next to The Wildlife Year (1991, Reader’s Digest London), which my grandparents bought for me as a Christmas gift in 1994. I love animal reference books – not just for the interesting facts on their lives and biology, but also because they are spectacularly helpful for inspiration when I’m drawing and painting. At least, that’s how I justified adding this one to my overflowing bookshelves!
